Barry might not agree with the title of “Model Genius”, but that’s the name I’m giving him. One day I hope there will be a book about his life as the few words I put here are just a drop in the ocean. My time with Barry introduced me to scale model airplanes and the blood, sweat and tears that goes into the process. Sure you can buy a kit online and build it, but Barry builds it ALL by hand. I’m not educated enough in the process to explain it all, nor do my photos capture the amount of detail he puts into it. Every rivet that the original plane had, Barry includes..even ones you would never see. All of the mechanical pieces, working parts etc he does himself. If the real engines used to leak oil, sure enough he has that detail hand painted in where they used to leak.
I had asked how many months his current project would take, he graciously smiled and said “you mean years”.
Truly works of art and I wish I had some shots of the completed version of the plane he is currently work on…guess I’ll be back in a few years to get them.
