After spending some time having Kristian walk me through part of his process in making his own knives, I began to become confused. The confusion wasn’t about the process, but more along the lines of how can one person be so talented in so many different things?
I’ve shot photos of Kristian in the past on his mountain bike and those times had me thinking he must spend all his days on his bike to be that confident. Only to hear he is spending his time making his own knives using a forge that he built himself…oh and he does a bunch of other things in woodworking that I’ll have to capture on another day.
Thanks for the invite…I left your house truly believing you don’t sleep!
Some words from Kristian below.
“Since I was a child, I have always had an affinity for knives. I was following all these knife makers on social media and one day thought “I wonder if I could make a knife”. I started doing a bunch of research and found that it would be much more cost effective to make a lot of the necessary tools. After making a couple forges that ultimately failed I ended up with the one I use today. I struggle with expectations. I know it is possible to produce the quality product I want but very difficult to achieve it. I just need to keep practicing 🙂
The enjoyment for me is taking pieces of unassuming metal and wood materials and transforming them into this manifestation of ideas to form a tangible working tool…that typically sits in a drawer, haha.”
